Hello!

It is with great joy and humility that I introduce myself to you as the Interim Executive Director of Camp Geddie for the 2013 camping season!  I have been in this role since February 8, 2013. It is an honor to be able to serve in this capacity and acquaint myself with you over the coming months.  I look forward to this journey.

Camp Geddie is a place of sanctuary, where people come to find rest, tranquility, and God; it is a breath   of fresh air, a panacea for our everyday burdens and troubles.  Its majestic nature has impacted me significantly, as it has so many others.  My experiences working as part of the summer staff (2008-2011) are some of the most influential times of my life.

I am married to Amanda (formerly Henderson) who also has been a member of the Camp Geddie staff. We are currently living in Merigomish. While I am a McGill University student nearing completion of my PhD in Religious Studies, my educational and employment background also includes a strong focus on recreation management and community development.  My work experience with several camps around the Maritimes and my degree in recreation from Acadia University have provided me with what I believe to be vital skills and crucial tools for serving the Camp Geddie community.

After working at Camp Geddie for four years and witnessing the change and growth (both spiritually and developmentally) in the lives of many children, I firmly believe that Geddie is a symbol of the natural synthesis existing between play, deep and meaningful relationships, and theology.  I have seen rich relationships between staff members and campers cemented in a single week at camp (whether it originates in Bible Study or tipping over a canoe in the lake), and these bonds help both to explore their faith and enrich their walk with Christ.  This value of Geddie cannot be overstated and it is for this reason I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful camp community!

I highly encourage anyone who is interested in coming to camp this summer to register on our webpage ASAP; spots are going fast!  Again, I look forward to meeting you all in person in the next few months.  Together we carry on Camp Geddie’s legacy!

You can choose ONE cabin mate and as long as they have chosen you we will be sure to have you in the same cabin and unit. We cannot have several campers choosing one person and all being together in the one cabin. It makes it unfair for the others in the cabin and takes away the great opportunity to make new friends.   If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Chapel Dedication: On July 27^th, Camp Geddie will hold a special evening vesper service to name the chapel “The Donald Walker MacKay Chapel”, in honor and memory of a great friend and worker of the camp. The service will begin with the taking down of the flag at 7:15 with the service to follow at 7:30 PM. Following the service, a time of refreshment in the lodge and around the campfire will be held.

The camp will be open to receive visitors from 3 PM onward for those who wish to come enjoy the camp and meet with Donald’s family. A BBQ supper will be available. To assist with preparations, please email or phone the camp ( 926.2632 or director@campgeddie.ca) if you are planning on attending the BBQ.

Bring your lawn chair and come for this special day.

As part of celebration of our 65th year of Camping Ministry in Atlantic Canada a small but dedicated group of people have been busy pouring through boxes and boxes of camp memorabilia. The result is a beautiful little book, “Geddie, Beautiful Geddie” filled with word and photo that tell some of the story that is this camp.

On July 27th, the book will be available for sale. Cost is $20.

Those wishing to acknowledge 65 years of camping ministry and receive a Special Edition (Hard Cover) of the book are invited to make a donation of $65 ( or more) to Camp Geddie before September 1, 2012. Please inicate it is for the “Anniversary Appeal”. An order for the special editions will be placed in early September and delivered upon arrival.
