The deadline for CIT applications was June 1st. We are now extending the deadline to June 15th.

CIT is designed as an ideal transition between being a camper and
becoming a staff member. The program emphasizes the development of Christian camping leadership skills (including learning age group characteristics, planning and leading Bible study, vespers, campfires, and singing, working with special needs campers and much more. It offers a balance of formal training, mentoring, and practical hands on experience. Upon successful completion of the training period (which includes time in cabins and units being mentored by our summer staff), CIT Participants may be invited to attend a camp session in August as a Junior Counsellor, gaining further hands on experience.

Camp Geddie will begin to charge HST on Camp Registration Fees May 7th, 2014

We have been blessed for many years to be able to offer our camps tax-free due to a previously- existing tax exemption, but due to changes in the interpretation of charity regulations we have recently reached the threshold and are now required, along with all camps, even those that provide religious teaching and programming, to charge HST on any camping program with overnight supervision. This means that, starting with registrations received and processed after Wed, May 7th we will begin charging HST on all of our summer camp sessions.

In recognition of the additional financial burden this will place on you, our valued camp families, we will apply a 15% credit (we pay the tax) on all registrations received and processed prior to May 7th. We want to do our part, in whatever small way we can, to ensure that as many of our campers as possible will be able to attend Camp Geddie this summer.

As always, there are limited funds available in our “Campership Fund” generously donated by churches, groups, and individuals to assist those who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend Camp Geddie. Please contact our Director for an application form (please note that funds marked for use for the 2014 season will be distributed on June 1st so submit your application as soon as possible, a reference is required)

Farewell Message from the Interim Executive Director

Camp Geddie would like to officially welcome Whitney Pyche-Melanson as its new full-time Executive Director.  Whitney will begin her tenure in her new role on May 1st.

It has been an absolute honor to serve as the interim Executive Director over the past year and a half.  My wife (Amanda) and I have relocated to Prince Edward Island in the past year and that has not allowed me to continue to serve at the camp.  Therefore my work as director will come to an end on May 31st.  It was a difficult decision to step away, but at this time we feel called to a different path.

After much reflection, what I think I will miss most about camp are those summer nights; after the majestic sunsets when the busyness and fun of the day have subsided to sleepiness, and a certain sense of peace settles over the camp, one is reminded of the holiness and love that surrounds this special place.

The word that I often use to describe Geddie is “sanctuary;” it is a sacred place which captivates and mesmerizes, where one is refreshed and renewed from the hardships of the world, where one grows in oneself and in relation to God, by tipping a canoe in a lake or playing “Plates” or by watching the waves lap onto the beach.  I know I am not the only one who feels that way.  Over the years, Geddie has been that sanctuary for so many generations.  To be even a small piece of the life of Geddie and to have the privilege to have grown in relationship with you – the wider camp community – has been an absolutely amazing experience.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Camp Geddie Clean-Up

Every year Camp Geddie asks for support from the wider camp community to help us prepare for the upcoming summer months.  This is often referred to as our “Camp Clean-Up Day.”  The camp asks all those who are interested to come out to the camp on that special day to help us – there’s a job for everyone!  Some of the duties include, painting, putting in our canoe dock, gardening, cleaning the cabins and lodges, etc.  Plus, lunch is served for everyone afterwards!

This year, the date is set for Saturday, May 10th, beginning at 9am (with the rain date being Saturday, May 31st).  If you’re able to lend a hand, we would really appreciate it!  We would encourage youth groups, congregations, neighborhoods – all of the Camp Geddie community – to come out to help!  We would really appreciate your support!

School Groups in June

Camp Geddie is currently taking reservations for school groups in the month of June.  If you or someone you know are interested in bringing a class of students to Geddie for a fun-packed, day long field trip, please call or e-mail the camp at:

Travel to Canada Youth 2014

Canada Youth 2014 is just around the corner!  For information on the event, please refer to the poster below, which details this year’s tracks (three distinct tracks for ALL ages) and fundraising initiatives you as a church may wish to hold to help alleviate some of the cost.  CY is a great event and this year promises to be another opportunity for growth, devotion, and fun!  You can discover more information about the event here:

There are currently two buses booked to transport folks from Atlantic Canada to CY this year, leaving the Maritimes on July 6th.  The deadline for reserving a seat on one of the buses is March 24, 2014.  To reserve your spot, please send a $125 non-refundable deposit payable to “The Synod of the Atlantic Provinces.” Please include the contact information form (found below), as that information will be the primary means of communication.  Cheques and forms can be sent to the attention of Chad Bolton at:

The total cost for transportation will be calculated after the March 24th deadline and those who have reserved a seat will be contacted with the exact amount owing (as well as bus pick-up locations and times). Based on calculated estimates however, the total bus cost this year will fall somewhere between $350-$425.  Of course, the more people that go, the lower the cost, so tell your friends!
